Though it is unfortunate that humans sometimes behave in a manner worse than animals, we cannot change the past but only hope for a better future. Rwandan Genocide resulted in the death of more than 1,000,000 Tutsis in Rwanda. Undoubtedly the first name which comes to the mind when we talk about the horrors of Rwandan Genocide is Hotel Rwanda. An extremely intense movie which successfully expressed one of the biggest shame on humanity: Rwandan genocide. Don Cheadle featuring Paul Rusesabagina, a Rwandan Hotel manager goes on a legendary and heroic sequence of events saving scores of Tutsis from the lash of the extremist Hutus. The movie is the one of the best depiction of suffering, chaos and helplessness and certainly a tear-breaker.

2. Shooting Dogs (2005)shooting dogs

Shooting Dogs or Beyond the gates (as released in US) talks about the horrors of the Tutsi crisis in Rwanda in 1994. Unlike Hotel Rwanda, this movie was shot in Rwanda with genuine genocide survivor playing minor roles. It depicts the role of United Nations in the situation and how helpless the troops were during the Hutus aggression. The movie portrays mass massacre with some intense shots which will stimulate chills through your body.

3. A Sunday In Kigali (2006)kigali

Based in the novel “A Sunday at a pool in Kigali”, Canadian journalist Bernard Valcourt has somehow found himself in the town of Kigali in 1994, where he falls for a Tutsi waitress. The violence is successful in separating the couple but he comes back later to Kigali seeking her.

4. Shake Hands With The Devil (2007)shake hands

This Canadian war drama is centered on General Dallaire, First in command of UN to Rwanda, in 1994. The movie portrays rhetorical journey of the General during the violence while facing tremendous indifference from his troop and the administration of UN. The movie is an impeccable tribute to a man exhibiting hospitality in hostility.
